Ruth I. Verbeke, 93, of Milan, formerly of Aledo, passed away Sunday May 22, 2016 at Avonlea Cottages, Milan.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am Thursday at St. Catherine's Church, Aledo. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-7PM at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Reynolds. Burial will be in Preemption Cemetery. Memorials may be left to St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Preemption Cemetery or Hospice Compassus.
Ruth was born on February 2, 1923 in Eau Claire, WI., the daughter of Rev. William and Bertha (Bremicker) Horn. She married Henry "Hank" Verbeke on August 26, 1939 in Rock Island.
Mrs. Verbeke helped Hank on their farm since the early 40's.
Ruth was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Aledo and a lifetime member of the Farm Bureau. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, enjoyed fishing trips to Rice Lake in Wisconsin, gardening, bird watching and in her earlier years roller skating. Family was everything to Ruth and she loved spending time with her family more than anything.
She is survived by her children and spouses, Charles "Butch" (Veranita) Verbeke, Aledo, Charlotte Eaton, Milan, Alice Parker, Viola, Mary (Bob) DeShane, Milan, William Verbeke, Tucson, AZ, Daniel "Sam" (Glenda) Verbeke, Milan, Michael (Chris) Verbeke, Reynolds; son in law, Terry King, Sherrard; 15 grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sister, Joan Wylie, California.
She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter, Janet King, brother, Paul Horn, grandson, Tim and great grandson, Jackson.
