 Gordon G. Pape,81, of Illinois City, passed away Friday, December 1,2017 at Premier Estates, Muscatine.

 Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, December 4th, at the Edgington Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Edgington. Burial will be in Illinois City Cemetery, Illinois City. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 201 4th Ave. E., Milan, where a Masonic Service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday. Memorials may be made to Kaaba Shriners Hospital Transportation Fund or to the food pantry at Edington Evangelical Presbyterian Church.

 Gordon was born December 27, 1935 in Morrison, IL, a son of Lauren V. and Mary I. Schipper Pape. He graduated from Reynolds High School, Class of 1954. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served during the Korean War.

 Gordon and Marjorie J. Parchert were united in marriage on November 9, 1956 in Rock Island.

 Gordon retired from Management and Sales with Praxair, Muscatine. He also served as the longtime fire chief of the Illinois City Fire Department.

 He was a member of Edgington Evangelical Presbyterian Church, member and past master of Buffalo Prairie Lodge 679 AF & AM, member of Valley of Moline Scottish Rite Consistory, and Kaaba Shriners, Davenport. He served on the board for the Chicago Shriners Hospitals for Children, was past commander of Kaaba Legion of Honor and served with the Hospital Dads.

 Gordon also was a member and past commander of Reynolds American Legion Post 1166, served on the Mercer County Veterans Assistance Commission, and drove many veterans to the V.A. Hospital over the years. He was a charter member of the Illinois City Fur, Fin & Feather Conservation Club.

 Surviving are his wife, Marjorie, of Illinois City; sons, Martin G. Pape, and his wife Tabitha, Illinois City, and John G. Pape, and his wife Brenda, Oskaloosa, IA; granddaughter, Marjorie C. “Maggie” Pape, Illinois City; sister-in-law, Deloris Pape, Illinois City; and nieces, Debbie Beatty, Illinois City, Denise Pape, Rockford, IL and Deanna Lee, Illinois City, and their families; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Diane Smith, Illinois City, John Parchert and Evelyn Parchert, Andalusia, and Eileen and Steve Elsworth, Muscatine, and their families.

 Gordon was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Darrell D. Pape; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Floyd and Dorothy Parchert; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Sheldon and Martha Parchert; and nephew, Greg Smith.
